RENUMESH Technologies Attains Approval from UCC, Joins National Industry Associations

The S618 Solar-powered Router, designed and locally assembled by RENUMESH Technologies, a subsidiary of the Research and Education Network for Uganda (RENU), was granted Type Approval by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), validating its compliance with national standards and readiness for large-scale deployment. UCC, Uganda’s regulatory authority for the communications sector, oversees licensing, standards compliance, and consumer protection across telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal services.

The approval confirms that RENUMESH Technologies’ locally assembled solar-powered routers meet all national and international standards for safety, performance, and interoperability. This certification allows the routers to be integrated across Uganda’s communications network, marking a significant step forward for locally developed technology.

As the first company to manufacture routers in Uganda, RENUMESH Technologies is proving that sustainable, technology can drive Africa’s typical connectivity goals. With the solar-powered router, RENUMESH aims to make affordable and reliable Internet access possible for communities that are often left out, especially in remote or off-grid areas, which aligns with SDG 4, that is concerned with ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. It also speaks to SDG 7, which is concerned with access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all; SDG 9, which is concerned with building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation; and SDG 13 which is about taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Beyond regulatory approval, RENUMESH Technologies has also joined several national industry bodies, including the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) and the Uganda Solar Energy Association (USEA). UMA is the umbrella organization that represents and advocates for Uganda’s manufacturing sector, driving policies that enhance industrial growth and competitiveness. USEA, on the other hand, is the association promoting the adoption and use of renewable energy, particularly solar technologies, across the country. These partnerships recognize RENUMESH Technologies’ growing role in advancing local production, promoting renewable energy, and supporting Uganda’s wider digital transformation.

The type approval embodies RENUMESH Technologies’ mission to deliver innovative and sustainable connectivity solutions that empower communities across Africa, and brings the company closer to realizing its vision of a fully connected and inclusive digital future.
